Hervé SELLIN was born in 1957.
Both his parents were musicians. He studied classical piano with Pierre Sancan and entered the Conservatoire de Paris in 1976, in Aldo Ciccolini’s class.
In 1980, he finishes with piano and chamber music prizes. Passionate about jazz for many years, he then moves towards a career as a jazz musician, playing with great musicians such as Chet Baker, Dizzy Gillespie, James Moody, Clifford Jordan, Slide Hampton, Art Farmer ...

In 1984, Hervé Sellin met American saxophonist Johnny Griffin, for whom he will become his official pianist for more than 15 years in Europe. He will also accompany singer Dee Dee Bridgewater from 1986 to 1990.
In 1990, Hervé Sellin was awarded the Django Reinhardt Prize (by the French Jazz Academy) for his activities as a soloist and composer.
In 1991, he recorded with saxophonist Branford Marsalis.
From 2002 to 2007 Hervé Sellin will be part of the group "Piazzolla Forever" alongside accordionist Richard Galliano.
Following the invitation of Wynton Marsalis at the Lincoln Center in New York, he published, in 2008, "Marciac New York Express", an album unanimously acclaimed by critics (Best French Jazz Record 2008, awarded by the Jazz Academy). Hervé Sellin also receives, on this occasion, a Django d'Or, category Confirmed Artist.

At the same time, Hervé Sellin is professor at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris (Jazz and Improvised Music Department and Education Training Department) since 1993. He also directed art workshops at Sciences-Po Paris between 2013 and 2017.

Hervé Sellin released, in October 2017, two new albums: "Passerelles", between classical music and jazz - Works by Schumann, Satie, Dutilleux, Debussy (quartet and quintet with two pianos in the company of pianist Fanny Azzuro) - "Always Too Soon", jazz quartet with saxophonist Pierrick Pedron - tribute to saxophonist Phil Woods – (Choc Jazz magazine).

Next album to be released in March 2018: Claude Debussy “Jazz Impressions” (piano solo).

  • initiation à la pratique de l'improvisation en jazz mais aussi à l'improvisation "non idiomatique": l'improvisation comme attitude, l'improvisation comme une composante de l'interprétation.
  • initiation à la lecture de thèmes et de grilles de jazz (chiffrages d'accords).
  • découverte du répertoire jazz écrit pour piano (Ragtime, "Stride"…)
